'Bloom' is a time of cycle on Impendia marked by the growth, proliferation, and decay of species of otherwise dormant microbes called Haze-archaeids.

Epos Impendian Edit

P = peak week

w = wil (bloom)

l = liw (wilt)

Properties Edit

(colors represent the bloom/peak and wilt coloration of the microbes)

1

Udiswil Edit

'First bloom', fast-blooming with a long period of wilt that is often taken as a period of rest and vacation after an initial celebration of the new cycle.

2

Praxwil Edit

Second bloom, 'slow' bloom, with peak week occurring late on the 10th week. Because of the slowness of this bloom, and its volume, the end of this period marks a significant harvesting of these microbes.

3

Nuwil Edit

Third bloom, 'center' bloom, with peak week occurring on the 6th week.

4

Ufliwil Edit

Fourth bloom, 'fourth wilt bloom', with a secondary period of fast bloom and wilt followed by the main bloom which peaks in the 6th week and carries over to the next. The peak week of this bloom, called Ufliwois is celebrated as a miracle because of an historical period of non-bloom during these weeks which ended around 5,000 years ago with the appearance of the Ufliwil microbes.

5

Neeswil Edit

Fifth bloom, the holiest of blooms in the Xolhengian calendar, is marked by a relatively fast-blooming, symbiotic haze microbe which is released by structi. Rather than lying dormant in the atmosphere, these haze microbes live with the structi the rest of cycle before being released, and travel through the atmosphere long distances before resettling. This is a unique bloom because, depending on the colony's location on the planet, a colony could see the microbes only in either bloom or wilt, or both. The sighting of this bloom is usually an immediate call to prayer.

6

Tixwil Edit

Sixth bloom, 'joke' bloom, which is the most unpredictable bloom. This bloom has a secondary bloom which either comes early or late, and Xolhengians and colonists alike celebrate a tradition of planning Nuruzingamb for one or the other, to see if the secondary bloom occurs or not. If it does, the festival is marked by wild music, dancing, drinking, and sex, and if it doesn't, everyone who attends is given a brown vest to wear publicly for the rest of the bloom.
